Ford does not build this truck any more. Hold that fact in one hand and every lease advert in the other, because a ford lightning lease in October 2026 is not a normal lease at all. It is a clearance transaction: the last new 2025 F-150 Lightnings, sitting on a shrinking number of dealer lots, with Ford Credit paying out thousands in lease cash to move them. The deals are real. So are the traps. This guide prices every documented offer the honest way — total dollars in, divided by months — and shows you where the remaining trucks actually are.
What happened, briefly. Lightning production stopped in the autumn of 2025 after a fire at an aluminium supplier, and on December 15, 2025 Ford made it official: the battery-electric Lightning was finished, folded into a $19.5 billion write-down of the company’s EV plans. The Rouge Electric Vehicle Center never restarted the line. Ford’s replacement is a Lightning with a petrol generator on board — an extended-range truck Ford says will cover more than 700 miles — and it has no confirmed launch date (checked October 25, 2026). Every number below is about the pure-electric truck Ford already built, because that is the only one you can sign for.
Inventory is the whole story. Ford ended production holding roughly 147 days of unsold Lightnings. Clearance incentives burned that pile down through 2026: by late June, CarsDirect counted about 400 to 500 new trucks left nationwide, and most dealerships had none at all. Since then the count has only fallen (est. — Ford publishes no live figure). There is no national Lightning lease programme in Ford’s October 2026 offers, which run through November 2, 2026; the advertised F-150 lease in the current lineup is the petrol STX at $499 a month. A Lightning lease today is written dealer by dealer, truck by truck, VIN by VIN.
So ignore the monthly payment in any advert. It is the least honest number on the page. The only figure I trust is the effective monthly cost: every payment, plus everything due at signing, divided by the months. Run that sum on any ford lightning lease quote and the marketing falls away — what is left is either a genuinely cheap truck or an expensive one wearing a cheap costume. The table below does the arithmetic for every widely reported offer, including the expired ones, because the expired ones mark the boundaries of what Ford Credit has been willing to accept.

Ford Lightning Lease Deals, Priced Honestly: Headline vs Effective Cost
The headline deal of 2026 landed in June. As Ford Authority reported from CarsDirect data, leftover 2025 Lightnings were offered at $199 a month for 24 months at 10,500 miles a year, with $6,799 due at signing and $13,000 of Ford Credit lease cash behind the offer. Here is the sum the advert skips. 24 × $199 is $4,776. Add the $6,799 due at signing and the lease costs $11,575 before tax. Divide by 24 months: $482 a month, effective. Ford Authority ran the same division and printed the same $482. The $199 headline covers about 41% of the true cost. The other 59% arrives on day one.
One detail inside that $13,000 matters. Two thousand dollars of it is yours only if you decline the free home charger offered through Ford’s Power Promise programme, which is set out on Ford’s official EV incentives page. Take the cash or take the charger — it is a real decision with a real price on both sides, and it gets its own section below.
Every documented ford lightning lease offer we could verify, repriced the same way. Figures are before tax, exactly as advertised. Expired programmes stay in the table; they tell you the range Ford Credit works inside.
| Offer (programme, status) | Headline | Due at signing | Term | Total paid | Effective /mo |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 XLT clearance lease (Jun 2026) | $199 | $6,799 | 24 mo | $11,575 | $482 |
| 2025 XLT with $12,250 RCL cash (2025 programme) | $237 | $6,624 | 24 mo | $12,312 | $513 |
| Nationwide XLT (Oct 2025, expired) | $465 | $465 | 36 mo | $17,205 | $478 |
| New York XLT Standard Range (Oct 2025, expired) | $329 | $5,199 | 36 mo | $17,043 | $473 |
| Los Angeles Flash (Oct 2025, expired) | $439 | $7,369 | 36 mo | $23,173 | $644 |
| Detroit XLT Extended Range (Oct 2025, expired) | $639 | $3,379 | 36 mo | $26,383 | $733 |
| Flash long-term offer (2025, expired) | $494 | $7,753 | 48 mo | $31,465 | $656 |
Score the clearance channel on its merits and it splits cleanly in two: the truck is cheap, the advert is not honest. Our score: 7.4/10 — Headline Honesty: 3/10. Effective Cost: 9/10. Terms: 8/10. A 24-month term at an effective $482 for a truck that stickered at $63,345 is strong value, and a short term suits a discontinued model perfectly. Just walk in knowing the real number is $482, not $199.
What are you actually leasing? In XLT form, a 98 kWh standard-range battery, 240 EPA miles, 452 hp and a 5,000 lb towing rating. Extended-range trucks carry a 131 kWh pack and up to 320 miles. Every Lightning gets the 14.1 cubic foot Mega Power Frunk — still the biggest front trunk fitted to any truck — and available Pro Power Onboard at up to 9.6 kW, enough to run a worksite or a fridge-and-lights household through an outage. None of that changed when production stopped. The truck did not get worse. It got orphaned, which is a pricing event, not a product flaw.
The older regional programmes show why ranges beat single numbers. In October 2025, Ford Credit’s advertised offers on the same basic truck ran from an effective $473 a month in New York to $733 a month in Detroit — a $260 spread created by battery size, region, and the size of the cheque demanded at signing. The nationwide XLT offer, $465 a month with only $465 due at signing, was the cleanest of them: effective $478, no games. Our score for that 36-month regional channel: 5.6/10 — Headline Honesty: 6/10. Effective Cost: 5/10. Terms: 6/10. Dates matter here: those programmes expired in late 2025, so any dealer quoting a similar shape today is building the deal locally, with local money.
What the End of the Tax Credit Did to Ford Lightning Lease Math
Until September 30, 2025, most Lightning leases carried a hidden passenger: the $7,500 federal commercial clean vehicle credit. Because Ford Credit owned the truck, it claimed the credit under Section 45W — no income cap, no battery-sourcing tests — and passed much of it back as lease cash. That route is closed. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act ended the $7,500 purchase credit, the $4,000 used credit and the 45W commercial credit on the same day, for every vehicle acquired after September 30, 2025. We set out what replaced them — mostly, nothing — in our guide to whether EVs are worth buying in the USA without tax credits.
Ford tried to keep the money flowing. In October 2025 it set up a scheme to keep claiming the credit on leases through its own financing arm past the deadline, then dropped the idea within days under political pressure. What happened next is the interesting part. The support did not vanish; it moved. Ford began funding the discount itself — and because Ford needed the trucks gone, its own money turned out to be bigger than Washington’s: $12,250 of EV RCL Cash in the 2025 programmes, rising to $13,000 behind the June 2026 clearance offer. Against the old $7,500 federal pass-through, that is $4,750 to $5,500 more support per truck (est. — programme stacks vary by region and date). Your ford lightning lease can undercut the tax-credit era’s numbers because the manufacturer is now the desperate party. Enjoy it, but understand the expiry mechanism: this cash exists only while leftover trucks do.
How to Hunt Down a Ford Lightning Lease That Still Exists
There is no configurator for this any more. The hunt runs on inventory searches and telephone calls, in this order.
- Search Ford’s national inventory and the big listing sites for new 2025 Lightnings, then widen the radius. With a few hundred trucks left nationwide (est.), the right truck is probably two states away. Shipping a truck costs a few hundred dollars. Overpaying locally costs thousands.
- Negotiate the selling price before the lease is ever mentioned. Dealers were cutting up to $20,000 off sticker on remaining trucks in mid-2026, per national listing roundups. Every dollar off the price is a dollar the lease never has to carry.
- Ask for the full incentive stack in writing: EV RCL Cash, any bonus cash, RCL renewal money if you are coming out of a Ford lease, and exactly what you surrender for each line. The $2,000 charger trade-off hides in this stack.
- Demand the due-at-signing breakdown, line by line: cap-cost reduction, first payment, acquisition fee, dealer fees, tax. A quote that will not itemise is a quote that is hiding something.
- Ask for the money factor and the residual as numbers, not adjectives. Broker marketplaces posted leftover Lightning leases with money factors near zero in late 2025 (est.) — that is what desperate inventory looks like when it is being honest.
- Confirm the Power Promise charger in the paperwork if you want it. Eligibility is exactly the sort of thing that evaporates between the sales desk and the finance office.
Do this well and a dealer-built deal can beat the published clearance numbers, because a dealer holding one Lightning and no foot traffic is negotiating against himself. Our score for the negotiated channel: 6.5/10 (est.) — Headline Honesty: 7/10, since there is no headline, only your paperwork. Effective Cost: 6/10. Terms: 5/10, because everything is bespoke and nothing is guaranteed to exist tomorrow. A ford lightning lease signed this autumn is a one-off contract, not a programme, and it should be read like one.
One more check before any numbers get signed: the truck itself. A leftover Lightning has been sitting, and sitting is not free. Confirm the battery size on the window sticker — standard-range and extended-range trucks ran on different programmes at different prices, and a dealer quoting extended-range money for a standard-range truck is either confused or hoping you are. Check the in-service date, because the 8-year battery warranty clock started when the truck first entered service, not when you sign. Ask for recall and software-update completion in writing, and look hard at the 12-volt battery and tyres on any truck that has sat through a winter (est. — replacement runs to a few hundred dollars, and it belongs inside the negotiation, not inside your first month of ownership). None of this is suspicion for its own sake. On a clearance deal, the paperwork is the product. The truck is simply attached to it.

Lease the Leftover or Buy It? The Two-Year Spreadsheet
Line the two routes up over the same 24 months. The clearance lease costs $11,575 all-in before tax, then you hand back the keys. Fixed. Known. Boring, in the way good spreadsheets are boring.
Buying takes the estimation risk onto your own books. Take a 2025 XLT at its $63,345 sticker, cut $15,000 — inside the discount range dealers were advertising in mid-2026, so call it (est.) — and you land at $48,345. Ford has paired clearance pricing with 0% APR for 72 months on this truck before; at 0%, $48,345 is $671 a month, and after 24 payments you have paid $16,115 and owe $32,230. Now sell it. Used 2025 Lightnings were averaging about $57,000 in asking prices across all trims in iSeeCars data, standard-range XLTs sit below that average, and used Lightnings were turning over in roughly 16 days in Recurrent’s data — the demand is real. Put the exit at $38,000 (est.) and the two-year ownership cost is $48,345 minus $38,000: $10,345, or about $431 a month (est.). Cheaper than the lease, by roughly $1,230 over the two years (est.) — provided the exit price behaves.
That proviso is doing heavy lifting. The $38,000 exit is a guess about a discontinued truck whose replacement carries a petrol engine. It could be $42,000. It could be $33,000. The difference lands entirely on you; on the lease, Ford Credit owns the guess. My call, and it is not close: for most households the ford lightning lease is the right structure for this exact truck in this exact moment. Buy only if you plan to keep it eight years or more, where the residual question stops mattering. Either way, run your own fuel and maintenance numbers before signing — home charging at residential rates is where this truck quietly out-saves a petrol F-150, and our EV total cost of ownership calculator does that arithmetic with your mileage and your electricity price.
One running-cost line in the Lightning’s favour: it has been reported among the cheapest EVs in America to insure on average, below its petrol F-150 counterpart. Cheap to fuel at home, cheap to insure, expensive to predict the future value of. Two out of three is plenty.
Fine Print: Miles, Fees and the $2,000 Charger Decision
The clearance lease allows 10,500 miles a year. That is a commuter allowance stapled to a truck. Drive a realistic 15,000 miles a year and you finish 24 months at 30,000 miles against an allowance of 21,000: 9,000 excess miles. Excess-mileage charges sit in your contract, typically $0.20 to $0.25 a mile on programmes of this type (est.) — $1,800 to $2,250, due at turn-in, unless you buy extra miles upfront at a discount or negotiate a higher allowance at signing. Price the miles before you sign. Not at the sad little desk at lease end.
Expect a disposition fee if you return the truck and walk away — a few hundred dollars (est.; your contract states the figure). Wear-and-tear standards were written with family crossovers in mind, and a truck that has done truck work gets inspected against them. Photograph everything at delivery. Keep the service records. Boring advice. Cheaper than the alternative.
Now the $2,000 question. Behind the June clearance offer, $2,000 of the lease cash was conditional on declining the free Power Promise home charger and its standard installation. What is the charger package worth? A quality home charger plus a straightforward installation typically lands between $1,500 and $2,500 (est.), and a panel upgrade pushes well past that. So the rule writes itself. Homeowner with a full panel and a long cable run? Take the charger; the installation is worth more than the cash. Renter, or already wired for home charging? Take the $2,000 and let the effective cost fall. Decide before the finance office decides for you.
Lightning Lease Questions, Answered Straight
Can you still get a ford lightning lease in 2026?
Yes — narrowly. The lease exists on leftover new 2025 trucks at dealers that still have one, funded by Ford Credit lease cash. There is no national advertised programme as of October 25, 2026, no 2026 model year to order, and no restock coming. When the last few hundred trucks are gone, this page becomes history.
Why does a $199 lease really cost $482 a month?
Because $6,799 is due before the first month starts. $4,776 of payments plus $6,799 at signing is $11,575; spread over 24 months, that is $482. The headline is not a lie, exactly. It is just 41% of the truth.
Does the $7,500 federal tax credit apply to a Lightning lease?
No. The purchase credit, the used credit and the commercial credit behind the old lease loophole all ended for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025. The discount inside a current Lightning lease is Ford’s own RCL cash, paid because Ford wants the inventory gone.
What happens at the end of the lease?
Three doors. Return the truck and settle any mileage, wear and disposition charges (est.). Buy it at the residual value written into your contract. Or walk away into something else. Ford still services the Lightning, parts support continues, and the 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty runs from the truck’s original in-service date whoever is driving it.
Is leasing smarter than buying a discounted leftover?
On our two-year spreadsheet, buying edges it by about $1,230 (est.) — if the resale value lands where we estimated. The lease costs slightly more and removes the guess entirely. For a discontinued model, certainty is worth $1,230 to most people. It is to me.
Can I lease the new extended-range Lightning instead?
Not yet. Ford has announced the concept — electric drive, a petrol generator, over 700 miles of claimed range — and no launch date (checked October 25, 2026). There is nothing to price and nothing to sign. Anyone quoting you a lease on it today is quoting fiction.
Final word. The electric truck market has moved on, and the rival still taking orders for a full-size electric pickup is covered in our Chevy Silverado EV guide. But a ford lightning lease on a leftover 2025 is, on the numbers, the cheapest honest route into a full-size electric truck in America this autumn — $482 a month effective for a $63,345 truck, with the depreciation risk parked on Ford’s balance sheet. Find one. Itemise everything. Sign the spreadsheet, not the advert.
If you are still weighing a ford lightning lease, start with the effective monthly cost, not the headline payment, and compare it with the same calculation for any rival quote. A ford lightning lease on a leftover truck rewards careful paperwork: check the battery size, the in-service date and every fee before you sign. For most buyers, a ford lightning lease is the lower-risk way to drive this truck for two years, because the residual risk stays with Ford Credit. Use this guide to price any ford lightning lease you are offered, and walk away from any quote that will not itemise its due-at-signing total. That discipline is what turns a ford lightning lease from a clearance advert into a genuinely good deal.
